Swarnamali Music School....

....was established in Melbourne, Victoria in 1989.The aims were to teach piano, violin , piano accordion, singing and theory of music to children as well as adults living around the school. The school which started with about 7 - 8 young children as students, gradually developed and grew into a place of learning for people of a variety of backgrounds, young and old, with different interests, objectives and needs. My oldest student was 77 years old and the youngest was just 5.
Soon I was incorporating the skills of these students into my multicultural charity concerts, as I found that I had Australian tap dancers, African snake dancers, Vietnamese singers, and Chinese sword fighters as my piano students. Then, there were also those people who had never ever got on a stage in their lifetime but had been always wishing secretly that one day they would taste a moment of stage glamour.......
When I realised that there were these people who needed encouragement and support to perform on a stage, I gave them the opportunity to appear in my charity concerts, training them from scratch as some of them hadn't even held a mike before. A little persuasion and a gentle push was enough. They agreed to perform. Once the initial nervousness was overcome they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were very grateful for the opportunity. The satisfaction I got by seeing the sense of achievement and joy in these people was immense!

Teaching students to successfully get through examinations conducted by the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) was another aim and objective of my school. Over the years, I have entered many students for practical and theory AMEB exams and they have all come out with flying colours.
I have also (and still do) taught music free of charge to children from low financial backgrounds, dysfunctional families, and new migrants who couldn't afford to pay for their lessons.
After ten years of managing and directing my music school in Melbourne, I established the Swarnamali Music School in Darwin ( in 2000 ) and ran it until January 2003, when we moved to Western Australia. In Darwin, I had many students young and old, who joined my school for voice training classes, piano and violin lessons as well as academic music. I was glad to be of assistance to several professional musicians in Darwin too, who came to me for piano and voice lessons. In June 2002, I organised a 'gala performance night' of all my students which their families enjoyed as much the performers did.
